In Vivo Insect BBB

The in vivo BBB permeability insect model enables BBB permeability studies of compounds in a living organism with elimination systems similar to vertebrates. Thus, the insect model provides a brain/plasma ratio that can be used to select candidates for conventional vertebrate in vivo BBB studies.

The insect in vivo BBB permeability model allows BBB permeability studies of compounds with low solubility without contaminating the BBB. This is a useful feature especially in the early discovery phase where the compounds frequently do have optimal phys-chem properties.

In the insect in vivo model EntomoPharm uses a 1-10mg/ml solution and the hemolymph/brain ration is measured. Thus the insect in vivo model is applicable as a medium throughput screening model allowing early determination of compounds ability to cross the BBB.
